Vivienne Westwood

Born in 1941, Dame Vivienne Westwood was a pioneering British designer who fused punk subversion with historical romanticism. Launching her career in 1971 with Malcolm McLaren at their boutique Let It Rock—later renamed Sex—she dressed the Sex Pistols and ignited the punk fashion movement. Her collections, like Pirate (1981) and Mini-Crini (1985), blended 18th-century silhouettes with rebellious energy. A lifelong activist, Westwood championed causes from climate justice to civil liberties. After her passing in 2022, her legacy endures through her husband and creative partner, Andreas Kronthaler, who continues to helm the brand.
